The concept of "mixed stone virtues" in lithotherapy is not related to the properties of a specific mixture, but rather to the art of combining stones to create an energetic synergy or to target complex needs.
There are no universal "virtues" to mixed stones, as the effect depends on the compatibility and properties of each mineral. A good combination can amplify the desired effects, while a bad one can create dissonance or cancel out the virtues.
Here are the fundamental rules and principles regarding the combination of stones in lithotherapy:
1. Principles of Harmonious Combination
To maximize benefits, it is generally advisable to combine stones according to certain criteria.
2. Combinations to Avoid (Dissonances)
Mixing opposing energies can create an energetic fog, cancel out effects, or cause a feeling of discomfort or agitation. It is generally not recommended to combine:
Opposing Stones (Calming vs. Stimulating):
Example: Amethyst (very soothing, spiritual) with Citrine or Garnet (very energizing, stimulating). The conflict can create mental agitation.
Overly Powerful Stones:
Certain very strong protective stones, such as Black Obsidian or Black Tourmaline, are sometimes recommended to be worn alone because they can dominate the energy of others.
"Vampirizing" (Absorbing) Stones:
Malachite is often cited as a very absorbing stone that can drain the energy of other stones.
3. General Advice
The most important advice in lithotherapy is to:
Limit the number: Do not wear more than 3 or 4 different stones at a time to allow each energy to act clearly.
Listen to your feelings: If a combination makes you feel uncomfortable, agitated, or tired, remove the stones. Your intuition is the best guide.
Work with intention: Define a clear need (e.g., "I need grounding and clarity") and choose stones that directly address that intention.
